Harvard University

Harvard University is arguably the most famous and prestigious university in the world. It belongs to the American Ivy League and is situated in the town of Cambridge, Massachusetts, the US.

The university was created in 1636 by the court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It is the oldest educational institution in the US. It was initially called New College Caribbean Property It was named after the young English clergyman John Harvard in 1639. He was a pastor that donated half his income as well as his library for the functioning of the young institution. Except the university the Harvard Bridge and the John Harvard Library in London are named after him. John Harvard was an alumnus of the University of Cambridge.

In the beginning the college had religious direction training and educated many of the protestant ministers of New England.  Harvard turned to a more secular field with the selection of John Leverett as its president in 1708. The students and the curriculum diverted a lot from the spiritual beginnings of the institution and by the 19th century turned into a cultural and educational establishment among the elite in the area of Boston.

After the American Civil War the Harvard University took a forth years tenure from the American President Charles Eliot. This transformed the university into a major research center. The next big change took place after the end of World War II when Harvard was gradually liberalized. In 1977 it merged with the Radcliff College. Radcliff was an all-girls school and a sister institution of Harvard. Drew Faust became the first female president of Harvard in 2007 Property Investment Club

Harvard is considered the richest university in the world with endowment of over 25 billion American dollars. According to the most recent QS World University Rankings it takes second place after Cambridge.
